Defying the Odds LLC is an educational consulting business that provides professional development workshops in the following areas:  HB 410, McKinney-Vento Act protocol, How to create positive Climate & Culture,  Climate survey & data assessments.  Individual & group coaching for students is also available with a focus on independent living skills curriculum, social & emotional learning and individual service plans.

Educational Consulting Services

Defying the Odds LLC uses a proactive training method to improve stakeholders awareness in the following areas :

Student/Group Coaching

Individuals or groups dealing with social & emotional stress (pandemic, peers, family) will be coached up on self awareness skills, relationship building and social/emotional learning.  Individual service plans will be developed for students receiving this service.


Value Added:  Students will be able to identify and cope with triggers/stressors that affect their mental state.  Service plans will assist students with improving self awareness and being able to transition back from traumatic events.

Camps, Before/After School Activities

Educational camp that aligns with to academic standards by Ohio State Board of Education

Develop scholars' academic learning deficits and their experiential learning. Academic learning support will focus on developing skills in basic reading, reading comprehension, mathematics problem solving, mathematics calculation and written expression,

Build holistic learners

Parents utilize ACE saving account to pay for services.

Independent Living Skills Curriculum

After completing lessons, students will gain the ability and knowledge needed to think critically, communicate effectively & function in today’s society.  Here are a few lessons students will take part in:
  • Financial Literacy
  • Self Care/Personal Hygiene
  • Problem Solving
  • Organizational Skills
  • Goal Setting

Value Added:  ILS curriculum will enhance districts social & emotional learning curriculum required by ODE.  Increase student self awareness, self confidence and overall mental health.

HB 410 Protocol

Staff & administrators will gain much needed training on how to adhere to ODE attendance policy & a proactive approach to motivate students/families to attend school daily.


Value Added:  This training/workshop assists staff and administrators will improve student engagement which ultimately will improve a district’s graduation rate.  Also will improve each school’s attendance indicator.

McKinney-Vento Act Protocol

Staff & administrators will be able to identify & help students/families experiencing homelessness.  Also training will include scenario based questions to test knowledge throughout sessions.


Value Added:  Training will educate staff of the causes & effects of families being homeless.  By educating staff, students & families will be linked to the resources needed both prior to and after experiencing homelessness.

Climate/culture workshop

Instructional staff & administrators will take part in an interactive professional development workshop discussing the school or organizations current climate/culture, initiatives to create & maintain positive climate/culture. Climate survey and assessment also available. School/organizations top three areas of concern pertaining to climate/culture will be identified and presented along with current policies/procedures contributing to a positive climate/culture.
